About Cumbria

There are few places in Britain that have as many naturally beautiful sites of historical interest as Cumbria. Ideal for walkers and nature lovers, an AGA cottage in Cumbria will give you access to the Lake District, a gorgeous area of England that has given inspiration to poets such as William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Interestingly, Cumbria also contains every peak in England that’s over 3,000 feet above sea level, with Scafell Pike being the highest in the country at 3,209 feet. It’s a hiker’s delight, though all the major attractions are safely at ground level.

There are a lot of places to visit, and those who choose to stay in the area can look forward to visiting such sites as Carlisle Castle, Furness Abbey, the Lake District National Park and even the world famous Hadrian’s Wall. There are a number of exceptional cottages to rent in Cumbria. Those who choose to stay in the picaresque fishing village of Patterdale will have excellent access to the Ullswater Valley, and locations visited and even once owned by noted poet William Wordsworth. Coniston is another fantastic location, former home to John Ruskin, an art critic and personality of the Victorian era, and the Ruskin Museum.
